Low-frequency rTMS to the parietal lobe increases eye-movement carryover and decreases hazard rating

چکیده

The persistence of attentional set from one task to a secondary unrelated task, revealed through carryover eye movements, has been attributed increased activation in the parietal lobe and decreased frontal lobe. To directly test this, we adopted modified version Thompson Crundall (2011) paradigm using low-frequency repetitive TMS P3 F3. In each trial, participants viewed letter-strings that were arranged horizontally, vertically, or randomly across screen before viewing road image providing hazardousness rating for it. orientation letter search influenced movements images this was greater following stimulation F3 than (or sham). Furthermore, hazardous ratings lower stimulation. These results confirm involvement orienting switching mechanisms movements. It is suggested “attentional inertia” effect will increase with resources an initial poor inhibition previously-relevant settings between tasks.

Parietal lobe contribution to mental rotation demonstrated with rTMS.

A large number of imaging studies have identified a role for the posterior parietal lobe, in particular Brodmann's area 7 and the intraparietal sulcus (IPS), in mental rotation. Here we investigated whether neural activity in the posterior parietal lobe is essential for successful mental rotation performance by observing the effects of interrupting this activity during the execution of a mental...

Dance and emotion in posterior parietal cortex: a low-frequency rTMS study.

BACKGROUND The neural bases of emotion are most often studied using short non-natural stimuli and assessed using correlational methods. Here we use a brain perturbation approach to make causal inferences between brain activity and emotional reaction to a long segment of dance. OBJECTIVE/HYPOTHESIS We aimed to apply offline rTMS over the brain regions involved in subjective emotional ratings t...

Visual and eye movement functions of the posterior parietal cortex.

Lesions of the posterior parietal area in humans produce interesting spatial-perceptual and spatial-behavioral deficits. Among the more important deficits observed are loss of spatial memories, problems representing spatial relations in models or drawings, disturbances in the spatial distribution of attention, and the inability to localize visual targets. Posterior parietal lesions in nonhuman ...

Investigating the Effects of Low Frequency rTMS on Kindled Seizure in Rats

Introduction: Neural stimulation is a promising new technology for the treatment of medically-intractable seizures.  Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a simple, non-invasive, low cost technique which is widely used in neurophysiology. In a few studies that have been performed at different frequencies the therapeutic effects of this technique were not obvious. Repetition of low frequen...

Decreases in frontal and parietal lobe regional cerebral blood flow related to habituation.

We previously reported decreased mean CBF between consecutive resting conditions, ascribed to habituation. Here we address the regional specificity of habituation over three consecutive flow studies. Regional CBF (rCBF) was measured in 55 adults (12 right-handed men, 12 right-handed women, 14 left-handed men, 17 left-handed women), with the 133Xe inhalation technique, during three conditions: r...
